GEORGE TEIGN BARTON ESTATE
SUMMER OF 2012
Who?:Anabelle Hofman
Where?: George Teign Barton, Ashotn, Exeter, Devon
When?: The Summer of 2012
How Long?: 4 Months, Part Time
What I Experienced: During my time at George Teign Barton Estate I experienced many different roles, from yard management to planting seasonal vegetables.
About My Time at George Teign Barton Estate:
My time spent working for Annabelle Hofman, was great fun, as I had a daily role looking after the horses in the morning. This was especially fun as i had not experienced much from horses before, and to be given charge over there daily feed, medication, and hay nets was a real excitement.
The horses were my most regular role on the estate as they had to be fed, and let out daily, however there were many other tasks to be getting on with afterwards, theses included; Weeding, mowing grass, apple picking (in preparation for cider making), vegetable sowing and then just little jobs that occurred, for example restoring the colour on the out side furniture. My mode of transport around the estate was a quad bike, and even though we have one on the family farm i felt very trusted when she allowed me to use this to hall the tools around from job to job.
My favored job apart form the horses was helping Annabelle ready the house and surrounding courtyards for events that she held for family friends and some events catering for the whole village. getting these spaces ready for the events was great, as I used the quad bike and trailer to move benches, chairs and tables into position. This was a great way to get some physical oversize as well as some free cake!
